I think you fail to realize how much porn is only available in .wmv format nowadays.

I think you fail to realize that .wmv format plays on linux, and os x nowadays.

I think you fail to realize that wmv works just fine on Linux.

ffmpeg has good support which in turn means that mplayer has good support, vlc has good support, as well as gstreamer with gst-ffmpeg.

Now Real Media files, those are a bit tricky... some work ok-ish with w32codecs but some won't seek or often crash. Fortunately real video is dying out and there are only some old files still around.

This graph is horribly flawed. Linux ranks well above Mac for gaming, what with all the Windows games that run in Wine that don't run under Darwin (at the very least, they should be the same and significantly higher). Also, Windows should rank much lower on porn, what with all the viruses and such that get passed around from porn sites.

@The guy before me: ffmpeg now has (in SVN) support for RealVideo 3, and it already had support for 4. I didn't think anyone actually used them, though... We should fight for non-patent-encumbered porn! "Linux Enthusiasts for Adult OGGs", if you will.

I think that several of the above posters are still DOWNLOADING their porn (in whatever format) ... but it's much simpler to view streaming video (regardless of content of said video) on any number of YouTube-esque sites. What those porn-streaming sites (as well as the actual Youtube and other non-porn sites like Hulu or sidereel) all have in common is that they all use Flash for content delivery which is still pretty buggy on Linux. It's much better than it used to be, admittedly, but I've still seen Firefox_3.0.5 crash pretty reliably running under Ubuntu_8.04(hardy) on all of those sites just from using the 'seek' bar to skip ahead of the current buffer.

Also you should really pay more attention to both posts on Planet and to almost any given video on Google.video that relates to hacking/programming/anything technical ... the number of Mac Book Pro's visible is at the very least a close second (and I hear TextMate mentioned at least as often as Vim/Emacs).

And finally under 'video production' while Linux is pretty clearly bottom of the barrel I can tell you from personal experience that the only reason that Final Cut Pro (on Mac) is in higher professional use is that that's what's presently being taught in the schools (because Art Depts are massively biased towards Macs for historical reasons); but anything you can do with FCP on a Mac you can do for less just as easily with Adobe programs under XP or Vista; while Kdenlive or Cinarella ... not so much.
