freemix 0.2 beta

(full size)

i'm very happy to announce freemix 0.2 beta is out! :)

freemix is a live video performance software, intended for and made by freedom loving live video artists. this new version 0.2 is a complete rebuild. the c code and openlib dependency have been switched for python and gstreamer. now it's very easy to get it running on your machine.

it gives you a videosources table and a sequencer to mix videos on the fly, while handling the sequencer bpm, videos pitch and more. so with a few hundred cool video clips and your free software system you are ready for vj gigs!

freemix is a limitless, open to creativity project, in beta stage. it is the time for a lot of testing, bug reporting, and user feedback. we are looking for your input and crazy ideas!

thanks to jan schmidt and alberto ruiz for their help.
debian/ubuntu packages will be available soon :)

Hola,

I tried to run freemix on my ubuntu 8.04.For that, I have installed the following packages (inspired from your README):
- python
- python-gtk2-dev
- gstreamer0.10-alsa
- gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
- gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
- python-gst0.10

When launching ./freemix (in the correct directory :)), I have the error above:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "src/freemix.py", line 31, in
from gui import Gui
File "/home/stef/Desktop/freemix/src/gui.py", line 24, in
import gio
ImportError: No module named gio
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I did not investigate further.

Anyway, I hope to be able very soon to test your software. Indeed, my wife work in video for theater and she's very interested in your soft. For my part, I am a great fan of open source.

So, thank you to involve the open source library, and good luck for improving your soft to the release 1.0 !!!! If you need any beta tester, let me know, it will be with a sincere pleasure.

stef

@stef:

You need pygobject 2.16 to access to the gio python bindings, whereas 8.04 includes pygobject 2.15.
